Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, "the District", or simply D.C., is the capital of the United States. Named in honor of George Washington, the City of Washington was founded in 1791 to serve as the new national capital. The centers of all three branches of the federal government of the United States are in the District, including the Congress, President, and Supreme Court. Washington is home to many national monuments and museums, which are primarily situated on or around the National Mall. Recommended Airports

The Washington, DC area is served by three different airports, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Dulles International Airport, and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

 

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, commonly known as National Airport, is located in Arlington County, Virginia and is the closest airport to downtown Washington, DC. National Airport is the most convenient of the area airports for visitors staying in the heart of the city. The airport is 5 miles away from the hotel and conference location.

 

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is located in Fairfax Country, Virginia about 26 miles west of downtown Washington, DC. Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is located in Baltimore, Maryland, about 32 miles northeast of Washington D.C.

Taxi

Taxis from the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to the Holiday Inn Washington D.C. will average $15. Taxis from Washington Dulles International Airport to the hotel will average around $65. Taxis from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport will average $90.

 

Metro

You can take the Metro directly from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Take the Yellow Line towards Fort-Totten/Greenbelt from the Reagan National stop (right outside the airport). The stop for the Holiday Inn Washington D.C. is L'Enfant Plaza. The trip takes approximately 10 minutes and costs $2.
